Trout Fishing

Trout fishing at Bennett Spring State Park is permitted from March 1 - October 31. Every angler must have a state fishing permit, except those 15 years and younger or Missouri residents 65 years and over. A daily tag is required for all anglers.

The daily limit is four trout; the possession limit is 8 trout. There are no length limits. Trout are stocked daily at the rate of 2.25 fish per estimated tag sold.

There is an 15 inch length limit on brown trout.

The approximately 1-1/2 miles of stream are divided into three fishing zones. Any type of rod and reel may be used; the restrictions apply to lures only.

Zone 1: From the Hatchery Dam upstream to the end of the area. Only flies are permitted.

Zone 2: From the Hatchery Dam to the Whistle Bridge. Only flies and artificial lures are permitted.

Zone 3: From the Whistle Bridge to the Niangua River. Only soft plastic bait (unscented), natural and scented bait are permitted. All flies and artificial lures are prohibited, even if natural bait or scent has been added.

The Winter Catch-And-Release season begins the second Friday in November and continues through the second Sunday in February, with fishing permitted on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

All winter anglers must obtain a $7 winter permit at the park hatchery and have a valid Missouri fishing license, unless age-exempt.

Single-hook flies are the only lures that may be used during catch-and-release fishing all fish must be released immediately, unharmed.

All three zones are open for winter fishing, with the exception of Zone 3 from the wooden bridge to the Niangua River.
